Dr. Wieck is a general adult and perinatal psychiatrist and was for many years the Lead Consultant for the Regional Perinatal Mental Health Service for the North West of England, based in Manchester. Recently, this service achieved universal access to specialist perinatal mental health services for all childbearing women with severe mental illness and their families in Greater Manchester, covering a population of 3 million people. She also was consultant for many years in the Regional Specialist Affective Disorders Clinic at the University Hospitals of Manchester. She is now Honorary Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist at the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
As a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, Dr. Wieck conducted research on the aetiology of postpartum bipolar recurrences. Throughout her career she continued to research and publish widely in her fields of interests throughout her career.
For the last 10 years, she has been lecturing in perinatal psychopharmacology on the 6‑monthly Master classes of the British Association of Psychopharmacology, and has held regular Continuing Medical Education Courses in perinatal psychopharmacology at the congresses of the European Psychiatric Association.
